What Is The Implication Of Accepting A Job Without An Employment Letter?

I recently just got a job and i wasn't offered an employment letter. They just told me my salary, period of probation and when to resume verbally without making it official. I'm kind of skeptical about the offer because the firm is a new one.
I want to know the implication of this before committing myself to the job.....please comment
